Fresh Time KPSBU Lembang


North Bandung Dairy Cooperative (KPSBU Lembang) has been leading in the dairy cooperative sector, not only because we produce an approximately 100.000 kilograms of fresh milk per day, also because we managed to encourage our members to maintain the best fresh milk quality in 2006. We proudly claimed our farm-gate price is the highest in Indonesia, the ultimate achievement of our slogan : Genuine Cooperative, Genuine Milk.
Nevertheless, during 2006 our cooperative still faces constraints which impact the small holder dairy farming in West Java. The long drought had reduce the productivity of our cattle, forcing the farmers to cut and carry the grass and forage from further surrounding area.
In order to produce high grade fresh milk, high quality input required. Unfortunately raw materials prices are fluctuated and scarce. For example, wheat pollard had doubled resulting in high concentrate price. In 2006, milk production decreased 3,70% from the target or only an average of 96.296,57 liter per day.

The Board of Directors and Team Management have committed to promote members welfare by dedicating all the resources to reach the vision. Our cooperative developed Rp. 240.000.000 (IDR) revolving fund enable the farmer to get a loan for increasing their herd size. We also developed a reserve fund for consumptive loan without interest and provision for our members.

Still, we realize all the efforts are not adequate enough in the highly competitive environment. Starting in 2006 our cooperative has begun producing yoghurt as final product. Fresh Time! is our brand for Yoghurt. Around 500 cups of yoghurt are sold directly to consumers every day through 5 selling point in Bandung area.

Fresh Time is still produce in small volume and manually, there for North Bandung Dairy Cooperative proposes to have a cooperation with donor country or organization to developed a medium – large scale operation for yoghurt production. The goal of the project is to increase cooperative capacity in creating added value product that eventually bring welfare for dairy farmers.
